How to Make a Mindful Space Within Your Home
A mindful space is somewhere you can truly relax, breathe in, and remind yourself that everything is going to be OK. You can be totally in the moment and feel at ease because of it, and you’re going to step away from this space feeling ten times more optimistic about the time ahead.
Finding a space to bring yourself into this zen state, though, is the hard part. You need to know you’ll have room for some peace and quiet and that’s difficult no matter what kind of life you’re living.
But if you section out a little area in your home for this exact purpose, you’ll never have any trouble finding a mindful moment again.
Prioritise Natural Light
Natural light is the best thing for bringing a sense of calm and serenity to the environment. Human beings also tend to love a bit of sunshine on the skin, especially on colder days when they need a spot of warmth! As such, try to incorporate natural light into your mindful home space.
Usually this means setting up underneath a window, where you can feel the sun’s rays through simple proximity. However, if you know there’s a good spot in your home where the sun shines through the window and hits exactly, use this space instead and still get the benefits.
Clear Out!
Want to be mindful but literally have no space to breathe even just regularly? It’s time to clear out! Your home shouldn’t just be a melting pot of everything you’ve ever bought and everything you’ve ever done. It needs to be a place where you can seek out calm and actively enjoy some of that peace.
Let’s get rid of much of the clutter! If need be, hire yourself some self storage to get things out of the way whilst you visualise the kind of space you really want to make. As long as there’s room for you to meditate within it, you can put whatever you want inside.
Don’t let things overwhelm you during those moments when you need to stretch out, take a deep breath, and get into your mindful zone.
Create Pleasantry for All Your Senses
It’s not just your eyes and your ears that should benefit from having a proper mindful space. Make sure your sense of smell, taste, and touch do too.
The former can be taken care of by putting some incense into the air, or buying some scented candles you know you enjoy and keeping them for mindful time. Your sense of touch will be supported by having something soft and/or supportive to sit on whilst you’re mindful.
And when it comes to taste, it’s always great to have a healthy and yummy snack on hand! Keep your mindful foods stored safely in the same cupboard as your scent items so they’re always in reach.
